Free Ontario G1 Practice Test 2025

You can take the Ontario G1 test once you turn 16 at a DriveTest centre. The G1 knowledge exam has 40 multiple-choice questions, divided into two sections:
- 20 questions on Road Signs
- 20 questions on Rules of the Road
You need a minimum of 16 correct answers in each section to pass. The G1 test also requires a vision check and payment of a $158.25 fee, which covers the knowledge exam, your future G2 road test, and a five-year licence. Retaking the G1 written test costs $15.75.
All questions are based on the 2025 Ontario Driver’s Handbook, and our G1 practice tests use the same scoring system as DriveTest centres. Many learners say our practice questions feel almost identical to the real exam.
After passing your written G1 test, you enter Ontario’s Graduated Licensing System. You must hold your G1 for 12 months (or 8 months with driver training) before attempting your G2 road test. During this stage, you may only drive under the supervision of a fully licensed driver.
